“Karunyam” charitable society was founded and registered and has been functioning since 15th August 2008, with its Head Quarters at Chavara, Kollam, Kerala, India. The first and the foremost mission of this charitable society is to strive for the uplift of the backward section of Chavara block – The people who are suffering from diseases, Poverty and unemployment. The karunyam pain and palliative care society is a registered charitable society. The mission of the society is “to improve the quality of the life of patients suffering from incurable or long-term illness by providing them palliative care which is affordable and acceptable to them, through community participation. Palliative care is an approach that improves the quality of life of patients and their families facing the problem associated with life-threatening illness, through the prevention and relief of suffering by means of early identification and impeccable assessment and treatment of pain and other problems of physical, psychosocial and spiritual. Palliative care provide relief from pain and other distressing symptoms. It affirms life and regards dying as a normal process. Intends neither to hasten nor postpone death.Integrates psychological and spiritual aspects of patient care. Offers a support system that helps the patient to live as happily as possible till death. Offers a support system that helps family cope with patient's illness and their own bereavement. The idea is to add life to their days and not days to their life!'
